Our Story

The Equestrian Center at Twinwood is a premier dressage boarding and training facility located approximately 30 minutes west of Houston, near Fulshear. We offer full care stall and pasture board for the competitive equestrian, in an idyllic country setting.

Twinwood sits on one hundred and twenty acres, offering spacious grass turn-out paddocks and 50 acres of ride-out space. We offer two full-size dressage arenas: The outdoor arena is lighted with all-weather GGT footing and the covered arena, also lighted, features footing from Premier Equestrian. While historically our competitive focus has been dressage, we also offer amenities for the serious eventer, including a dedicated 130 x 200 ft., lighted, all-weather outdoor jump arena, a one-acre grass cross-country jump school, and a quarter-mile gallop track. Nowhere in Houston can you find all these amenities in one place. In addition to an excellent barn manager, our experienced staff live on site to ensure your horse’s safety and well-being.

Twinwood boasts resident dressage and eventing trainers, all capable of taking you and your horse from green to Grand Prix. Our trainers have competition and training experience in Europe and the U.S., and each have an active and supportive group of clients showing with them. To find out more about Ida Mattisson, Nikki Taylor-Smith, Jackie Ericksen, Dan Erik Yokay and Jessica Fan, check out our trainers page.

Twinwood is located on FM 1093, at the west end of the Westpark Tollway, an easy commute from downtown or the Energy Corridor.  We are also convenient to Katy, Cinco Ranch, Richmond, and Rosenburg.  Twinwood is designed for the ultimate equestrian experience. Come board with us, and treat your horse, and yourself, to the best equestrian facility Houston has to offer!

History

The Equestrian Center property has a 30 year history with horses and first went by the name Jamar Farms. Bill (William) McArthur was a thoroughbred breeder in the 1990s and was hired by Jaramar. McArthur purchased the 130 acre property from Arthur Hilton in 1993. In 1995, Mr. McArthur received approval from the Department of the Army Corps of Engineers to build the main barn, large hay barn, and race tract that is still on the facility today. Jodie Hajdik was the contractor who built the main barn and James King completed the main barn dirt work, roads, and drainage throughout the property. The business thrived and Bill McArthur produced thoroughbred racehorse winners that were sought-after locally as well as in Kentucky and California.

Years later, due to McArthur's declining health, the business also declined and had to be sold. The 130 acres were split into two sections: 81 acres of raw land and the remaining 54 acres which included the improvements. Hambrant purchased the 54 acres and added the covered arena built by Morton Buildings and the six stall shed row barn adjacent to it.

On April 26th, 2006, Twinwood purchased the 81 acres from FM 1093 Farms and then on May 20th, 2008, Twinwood purchased the remaining 54 acres from Hambrant. On February 1st, 2010, Twinwood Equestrian Center, Inc. was formed and the original 130 acres was no longer divided. Later that same year, The Equestrian Center at Twinwood opened its gates as a boarding facility.
